FolioReader ("we", "us", or "our") is operated by Lim Chee Hau. This policy explains what data we collect when you use FolioReader, why we collect it, and your rights over it.
1. What we collect
- Email address — collected at registration and used to identify your account.
- Password — stored as a bcrypt hash; we never store your plaintext password.
- PDF files you upload — stored securely on our servers so you can access them across devices.
- Reading progress — last page read and scroll position, synced across your devices.
- Annotations, highlights, and bookmarks — created by you inside the app, stored on our servers.
- Tags and document metadata — titles and organisational data you add to your library.
We do not collect analytics, advertising identifiers, or any data beyond what is needed to operate the service.
2. How we use your data
- To provide the FolioReader service — syncing your library and reading progress across devices.
- To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- To respond to support requests you send us.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
3. Data storage and security
Your data is stored on servers located in the European Union. We use TLS (HTTPS) for all data in transit. PDF files and annotations are associated only with your account and are not accessible to other users.
4. Data retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data — including your email address, PDF files, annotations, bookmarks, and reading progress — is permanently deleted within 30 days.
5. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Deletion — delete your account and all associated data at any time, either from within the app (Settings → Delete account) or via our account deletion page.
- Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format.
6. Cookies
The FolioReader web app uses browser local storage to keep you signed in. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics cookies.
7. Children
FolioReader is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of FolioReader after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
